While it’s easy for Fort Worth to be overshadowed by neighboring Dallas, Fort Worth is the 12th-largest city in the United States and features a variety of fun activities for all ages to enjoy. If you’re shopping for North Fort Worth real estate, you may be curious to learn about what opportunities for dining and leisure the area has to offer. Keep reading to learn more about a few of our favorite attractions in the area.

1. Explore the Fort Worth Water Gardens

1502 Commerce St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Originally built in 1974, the gorgeous Fort Worth Water Gardens are found near Sundance Square. You’ll immediately notice the 22-foot tall waterfalls that descend into a reflection pool with several surrounding cypress trees. Near the Quiet Pool is the Aerated Pool, which features 40 different spraying nozzles that feed into the ground-level base. It’s a great reprieve from the business of the main part of the city. Keep in mind that swimming is not allowed in the water gardens.

2. Watch the giraffes at the Fort Worth Zoo

The Fort Worth Zoo is often recognized as one of the top zoos in the nation, and over 7,000 animals currently call the zoo “home.” It spans over 2.5 acres and gives children and adults a chance to view some of their favorite species up close. One of the most popular attractions is “Texas Wild,” where guests will have the opportunity to learn more about several unique species of wildlife that trace their origins back to the Lone Star State. This area also features a petting zoo.

3. See the Fort Worth Stockyards

131 E Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164

When you visit the Fort Worth Stockyards, you’ll discover an area that features both historical significance and modern relevance. The Fort Worth Stockyards are listed on the National Registry of Historic Districts, and many of the individual buildings in the area hold distinctions as Texas landmarks. At the same time, there are several nightclubs, restaurants, and shops in the area to explore. The area began as a railroad intersection and cattle exchange and sold an average of one million cattle each year until the 1950s slowed the cattle industry down. Every day at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., real Texas cowhands drive a full herd of Texas longhorns down East Exchange Avenue. This cattle drive is authentically and historically true, down to every detail, from the saddles to the chaps. Read more about The Herd and attend a live cattle drive.

Perhaps you’ve visited a Buc-ee’s before on a road trip, but most owners of North Fort Worth real estate are thrilled to have a location closer to home. Buc-ee's isn’t a restaurant, a gas station, or a department store - it’s all three merged into one. Guests rave about the delicious barbecue sandwiches and homemade jerky. As you walk through the store, you’ll smell homemade sugar-coated nuts and enjoy shopping for apparel, home decorations, and other Texas-inspired souvenirs. Don’t forget to grab a bag of Beaver Nuggets before you leave!

6. See the Texas Motor Speedway

3545 Lone Star Cir, Fort Worth, TX 76177

Conveniently located less than one mile away from Buc-ee's, Texas Motor Speedway regularly hosts both NASCAR and IndyCar Series races. The track is 1.5 miles long with a design that resembles speedways in Atlanta and Charlotte. With a capacity of over 200,000 people, it hosts some of the most well-attended races anywhere in the world. It also hosts other events throughout the year, such as car shows and concerts, if racing isn’t for you.

7. Explore the Kimbell Art Museum

3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76107

The Kimbell Art Museum is home to a large collection of art, in addition to an expansive research library and several different educational programs. You’ll find different traveling exhibits on display throughout the year. The museum first opened in 1972 and was designed by world-renowned architect Louis I. Khan. The beauty of the building itself will take your breath away. The cafe is a wonderful place to stop in for a quick lunch or an afternoon cup of tea or check out the Friday Happy Hour menu to start your weekend off on the right foot. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
